How To Read Guitar Tablature

Above is a picture of guitar tablature (taken from http://guitar.about.com/library/blhowtoreadtab.htm).

A tab for guitar has 6 horizontal lines, each of them representing a string of the guitar. The bottom line of the staff represents your lowest “E” string, the second line from the bottom represents your “A” string, etc.

There are numbers on the lines. The numbers representing what fret number to play. For example, in the picture above, the tab is telling you to play the third string seventh fret.

When the number appear zero, it means you have to play open string (no string pressed)
